I was refueling during the weekend!
Friday - My last day working on my previous workplace. Talked a bit with the team and said my goodbyes and we'll keep in touch. Went to the famjam's for dinner and chilled at home.
Saturday - I go my hair did! I dyed some of my hair purple and got it cut shorter! And we just watched Altered Carbon. I also did a lot of desk cleaning and office cleanup!
Sunday - Went to Trolley 5 for brunch (we had a $15 coupon!) and then went to Shoppers Drug Mart for a shower cap (I need to stop washing my hair everyday instead of every other day). We then went to David's Tea to redeem our rewards tea and got Turmeric Glow. It's a really good tea and such a cool freebie of 50g! We also went to COBS bakery and bought some tasty brioche bread.
After the weekend I started my new job! So far it has been great, there's a lot of information to learn that I'll have time to understand more as I go through the job, but so far I am really liking it!
It's been a bit weird to adjust to a new schedule though. I'm not used to working so late into dinner/the evening. But I used to work like this back in university, so it's not so bad. Especially when I have literally no commute, it's super nice!
While cleaning my desk and prepping my office, I started looking at photos on Pinterest because I found it kind of complicated to organize my desk (I now have a monitor on it too) and so I ended up removing my big letter mail rack that I used to store very random items/showcase my plushies underneath my desk. That added more space, but then I filled it up with some figures and now there's sme space left to put food/drinks/other items... but not a lot! So I realized I probably need to find some more table space somehow or storage/display space... and I thought of colour schemes. I wanted purple/lavendar tones originally but those are so hard to come by... so perhaps I might go for pink/blush tones... or maybe I could keep it simple? But I want to make it feel more like home! Hmm...

Recharging
Another week has gone by super quickly!!
The beginning of the week I spent it working on my virtual work and at my old work place. I was pretty burnt out from the last weekend, and so I worked through the week doing my old work place stuff, but barely had the energy to work on my virtual work. As a result I had to make up for the work I couldn't do by working on the weekend, which is all good, I didn't have much to do this weekend haha.
During the make up, I realized there are some tasks that I'd prefer not to do, and would rather give them to someone else who loves doing this work, or who is interested in getting experience with this. I've learned that although you can't always be picky on the work you want to do, sometimes you have to weigh the pros and cons of the work and make a decision based on that. I turned down a potential client work because I had taken on another client, and now I kind of wish I took the other one because it's more in line with my experience and what I want to do. I've definitely learned from this experience and I think the company is looking into getting a replacement person to help me out.
Thursday - I went to my family's for dinner and to celebrate LNY a bit earlier. Also went groccery shopping.
Friday - I worked at my old work place and did some virtual work and just chillaxed.
Saturday - Had a girls day out: went shopping and bought some makeup (eyeliner, foundation that was only $7, some bath balls, new sweat pants and a plaid shirt along with some soap bars to stock up!) and also bought some pastries from this Korean bakery called Wow Bakery. It definitely was WOW, and reminded me of the bakeries in Japan. I took a bit of this veggie pastry I bought and omfg it was DELICIOUS. It costs a bit more than other pastries (compared to Chinatown) but wow it was so good, I want another one. 'Twas a pretty fun day! I hadn't treated myself to a shopping day in a long time since I last had a stable job lol, but I didn't spend too much (just about $80 or so?) and we also had brunch at OEB. I won't spend for a bit as there's nothing I really need (since I'll be working remotely in my comfort clothing lol).
I then went home and worked most of the night on my virtual work to get things done. Debated about running a bath to try my new bath ball, but nah, watched YouTube instead.
Today I woke up in the late afternoon. I wanted to try not setting my alarm and seeing when my body would naturally wake up. I'm pretty sure I woke up a bit earlier than that, but drifted off to sleep again shortly after... and 12:30 wasn't too bad of a time to wake up naturally! I'll try it again tomorrow maybe and hopefully I'll wake up a little earlier to enjoy more of my day off.
I went to the gym, folded and put away most of the laundry, had breakfast and lunch and sent an email to my usual hair salon to see if they could colour my hair a certain way. I'm super excited to get my hair done purple! :)
I felt good going to the gym but couldn't handle too much... my arms are still pretty shaky, it shows how long it's been since I last went, and since I'll be working remotely, I need to go to the gym more and also get outside more.
So I'm going to input my spendings in a spreadsheet now and then go outside for a short walk around the neighborhood. I wa thinking of going to the Korean grocery store today, but it's already past 6pm... so maybe tomorrow?

Lots to celebrate
It's Monday and today I'm waiting for a DHL shipment, working on my virtual work and editing. I also need to figure out a Valentine's blog post or video... hmm. Speaking of video, I haven't edited my previously filmed videos yet, I should really get to that, but a few things happened and I'm pretty burnt out!
Last Friday I started a temp PT gig at my old workplace... I will be working on some website stuff for them for the next few days... until I start my brand new job!
The past two months of networking, commenting on and sharing LinkedIn posts, as well as just letting people know that I'm looking for work, and being passionate about what I do/want to do, really, really paid off.
I had only applied to a few positions and got an interview with a fantastic company, did really well on the interview, and signed the offer just last week. And it's remote work too! How awesome is that?
I also got more client work and had the virtual company reach out to me to ask if I would consider working FT for them in their office. In addition, my mortgage broker reached out to me and asked if I would be available to work for them FT too...
There's surprisingly a lot of opportunities out there!
I'm very happy that my hard work these past few months has paid off. I've never done anything like this before, because I was inexperienced and didn't know how to use the tools/let people know what I'm searching for. But wow, it really helps!
The weekend recap:
Friday - Worked at my old job for half the day, worked a bit on my virtual stuff and then went out to our friends' place for a belated birthday dinner for the boif. I was pretty exhausted.
Saturday - We had a very chill day and went to meet a friend to chat over some hot drinks and to catch up. Afterwards, we volunteered for the evening and I was pretty tired the next day.
Sunday - I felt like a zombie! Since this was one of the first hardcore weekends in a while, my body was not prepared and was so sluggish. We took it very easy and relaxed at home in the day and filmed at night.
Today I'm glad that I'm working at home today... and also taking time to recharge. I found that I get burnt out pretty easily if I don't do something for a longer period of time. Which is why I really need to get a better schedule going on in the next few weeks.
I also need to go to the gym more often. Have been slacking a lot!
My sleep pattern has been much better recently, but I do find it takes me a long time to fall asleep still... I'm going to have to adjust my night routine soon to fix this, that probably adds to why I find myself really exhausted!

IT SNOWED SO MUCH
January flew by SO quickly!
Today I woke up to so much snow... literally it's still piling on top of everything. Snow is so thick today then I've seen it been in the last few months. February snow...
Yesterday we went for dinner at the famjam's and played with Tofu for a bit. Had mashed potatoes for dinner, which is pretty much my fave entree to have. Then went home, and did some celebrating :)
Today we stayed inside because of the snow and it's super cold too... -20C. Currently friends are over playing Near and Far, and we also had some burrito bowls and quesadillas, churros and nachos for dinner.
It'll be less cold tomorrow but currently, it's -25C... wtf. Later tonight it'll be -27C... yikes!
Not too sure what we'll be doing tomorrow, but I think I'll do some work and some video editing. I need to get my YouTube videos up!
I did a blog post today so I'm pretty proud of myself.

It's snowing again!
This weekend was a little bit more eventful than the last weekend, haha.
Friday - We stayed in for the night. I also did work and went to the gym for a bit. Watched the boif play Monster Hunter and then I just chillaxed.
Saturday - Had Indomie for lunch with an egg - wow it's so good! We hadn't had it in a while. Also went to celebrate our friend's birthday - brought over some gelato from Fiasco Gelato ($5 pints!) and stayed over for quite a bit. Our friend was really happy with our gift (a baby bag) and we stayed over until 2am!
Sunday - I woke up pretty tired today (not used to staying up super late lol) and really late in the afternoon. Had eggs, turkey sausage and tomatoes with toast for breakfast! We then went for a walk to the store and I picked up some deodorant. Then we just chilled for a bit and went to Bookers BBQ for dinner as we had purchased some gift cards and wanted to use them. I tried the smoked brisket this time and it was soooo good!
Going to call it a night pretty soon, but I think I'm going to just chill for a bit more and then I have to get up early to do lots of work tomorrow. Not too much client work, but I have to do some video editing and work on my job search.
It's a shame it's so cold outside! Tomorrow it's supposed to warm up to 4 degrees, so hopefully the snow melts a bit!
I still haven't done my codeacademy or adwords stuff. Ack. I need to do that ASAP!

Weekend Recap
Friday - We played Charterstone (a legacy boardgame) with some friends, played two games and called it a night.
Saturday - I started reading my tech book on my Kobo (finally figured out how to get my books back on the device!) and went to Bite to try to get free gelato samples from Fiasco, but we missed them. Had a nice walk in Inglewood, though! Went out for bbt with a co-worker from my last job and caught up.
Sunday - Went to Luke's and got our free gelato samples (Vanilla Bean!) - we ended up buying some dark chocolate gelato :) Then got groceries and cooked some pasta with egg and turkey sausages for dinner. We also checked out Chai Pani for a bit to get some rice pudding dessert and some chai, both were VERY good! :)
I couldn't really sleep last night so I ended up sleeping in all morning. I did some work and read my book for a little bit. Tomorrow I have a lunch meetup to chat with someone who's experienced with freelancing and to possibly brainstorm ideas. Also I have a lot more work to do tomorrow, and I have to do some video editing as well.
Today I also got some interest from a previous client of mine that they may need help with some video editing, so I'm keeping my eye out!

The first week of remote
Wow, so the first week of working in the house has gone by quite quickly!
I started it off with doing a vlog series. I thought it would be fun to document my adventure of working virtual and my job search for a long-term virtual position. Can I quickly mention that I have learned a shitton of stuff since day one?? Yup.
Monday was more of a day to ease into things after having my client call. Then on Tuesday, I was supposed to have a call with another client, but we needed to reschedule for the day after. I didn't have any tasks on Tuesday so that day was more of a day to vlog about my experience and to job search. Throughout the week I learned that I was looking at the wrong work from home jobs... I kept looking at opportunities that were good for a side income, not necessarily a full or part-time income.
What I need right now is a FT/PT position and so my search changed after that. Of course, I was researching these jobs before, but I wanted to make sure I learned a bit more about the overall scope of virtual work. Also, I only worked like 6 hours or less at my virtual position so far... but I did manage to throw in that I'm interested in doing other kinds of work for the actual virtual company!
I found a few positions that I'm interested in. I applied to some, and there's a few that I've saved as a "maybe". I want to make sure I find the right fit for me.
I was also having office withdrawals. It was really hard. Working from home is sooo nice, but at the same time I have withdrawals because an office provides a routine, which seems more productive... but the thing is, I'm actually quite productive at home too, and so I want to make this work.
However, I did find a few office positions that look really interesting. I think I might apply to some of them as well (some are part-time, so I could do that0. At the same time of having a job, I still also want to have some time to work on my blog and other channels.
Speaking of other channels, I actually filmed TWO videos this weekend! *pats self on back* - I'm super proud of this milestone. Now I have some content I can use and I just need to edit these sometime this week. I haven't written any blog posts at all though, so I'll have to do at least one this week... I've already broken that resolution, rofl! But it's ok, I'm realizing this now and not later and I'll do something about it.
The plan for this week is:
- Work on my virtual stuff
- Apply for jobs
- Write at least one blog post
- Edit my two videos
- Get my Adwords (I need to complete this like this week!)
- Codeacademy lessons (oops, too focused on my search and forgot about this)
Weekend recap:
Friday - We had dinner with my family and played with Tofu and just chilled. Watched Dirk Gentley.
Saturday - We walked to Starbucks as it was SUPER nice out. (Yay, it wasn't cold!) Got some more coffee and then watched P to JK. I also filmed a video before. My friends came over to play boardgames and we played Machi Koro & The Coup. My friend also brought over her Japan Crate with her rejected snacks for us to keep. :)
Sunday - Went to Gyu-Kaku with friends who went on the Fernie trip with us and some other friends. as well. I had a bibimbap bowl as I wasn't feeling too well and didn't think it'd be a good idea to eat bbq. Still felt gross afterwards, but I filmed a video and then did some job searching and also played Block Puzzle.
I'm going to go work on my bujo for the week now. Oh and another thing I should do this week is really clean my desk/office so that it's a good place for working...
Good news today is that I also found out I got paid from my last job. So yay, that was nice!
