This weekend felt short, but I did stuff!

Earlier this week I got my no make no life box in the mail. It's full of cute and great smelling Sakura goodies. Unfortunately there's no makeup included, as the box is mostly full of skincare products, but that's okay with me! I am usually really picky with my makeup, and I've wanted to try Japanese skincare for a while. I filmed an unboxing video and I plan on editing that this week and uploading it, but first, I need to take some nice insert shots as it might be hard to see the products in my original footage.

I'm halfway through editing my makeup video though, slowly building up content!

On Friday we had a very chill day and played boardgames, as I had to sleep pretty early because on Saturday I went for a ski trip with my work.

It was my second time skiing and my body had forgotten how to stop on top of a downhill... oops... so I ran into the bunny hill gate and knocked it over, haha! I did a few runs on the bunny hill, and we took a break at the lodge, then I thought I was ready to try a green hill... so I went on the gondola with my co-workers and I didn't realize how tired I was, but I couldn't really control my speed/stop. I kept running into my VP who was trying to help me... then eventually I took off my skis, and she carried them down and I slid on my butt down the hill... It was too slippery to walk in ski boots!

We tried to put my skis on again but I just didn't have enough strength to clip the back in... so, I waited about half an hour for a courtesy ride in a tobaggan down the hill. It was pretty fun! It was very bumpy and I was riding backwards, but it was a cool experience. Next time I go skiing I will try the green runs/yellow runs first... and wih a lot of help, or I'll just stick with the bunny hills. It's still fun haha.

That lasted the whole day as we went for dinner in Banff right afterwards (we were skiing at Lake Louise). We went to a restaurant called Park Distillery, it had great food and great service! :) I am planning on going back again. It is a bit on the pricier side, but the portions were really good.

I passed out after I got home and napped for two hours. Then yesterday we went to Blaze Pizza for dinner. It's this fast food pizza place where you can customize your pizza with unlimited toppings for only $11.65! Sooo good. Then we watched The World's End and had some ice cream and matcha. We also finished our boardgame that we left off from Friday.

As my Saturday was a full day and my Sunday was so chill, the weekend felt very short. Only four more work days until the upcoming weekend, though!

I have lots of editing to do tomorrow as I passed out from waking up much earlier today. Naps feel so good!

Family Day Long Weekend

I didn't edit my makeup video... haha...

I just don't really like the footage. But I'll edit it eventually and make it fancy somehow. It's a challenge that I'm willing to take on.

This weekend we did quite a few things. First was Stage West's Drinking Habits play with buffet on Friday evening, then on Saturday I went out for ramen at Shiki Menya with Angela. We also had the Choco Julip at Alforno for the yyc hot chocolate festival. Too much bourbon! O_O And on Sunday we attended a housewarming at our friends' new place, and got them a nice terrarium from Plant.

During the housewarming we talked for several hours. Our friend is actually a real estate photographer, and after talking on that subject I started day dreaming... about how I want my videos to look, not just for YouTube, but professionally as well. I love depth of field, I love close-ups and I love creating a story for my videos.

I think that's why it's tough for me to create on demand content with little editing/effort. I want to put more effort into my videos, make them more stylish, and worry about editing stylishly later. I want the mise-en-scene to make sense, to look appealing. I love cinematography.

And that's what I will aim to do. It's going to take a lot of work and possibly some new lenses and equipment.

On that note, I received a notification that my website domain renewal is soon and well, I haven't worked on my website AT ALL!! What the heck?

And that's why I need to make more better quality videos, because I need to update my portfolio. I haven't really done much since 2014... embarassing. I'm going to do my own videos for a bit and in the meantime I will try to find some freelance gigs. Some simple ones to start off would be nice. :)

My goal is still to work in video for a full-time gig. It'd be cool if I could get something similiar like my friend, but in video! I'm not unhappy but I just want to do more.

Oh this week I also posted a blog post. I need to figure out a new post now...

Thrown off schedule

Blaaah.

I didn't edit my video in time for Valentine's Day. Why? Well, I took a look at the footage and I didn't like it. I also needed to record a voiceover in time to get it done, but I had too much editing to do for my volunteering. I was taking on extra work than usual and so couldn't really focus on my own projects.

Today would've been a good night to edit and upload but we went grocery shopping for a while and did some meal prep for lunch tomorrow...

I plan to edit the video eventually and make it a date night tutorial instead. If I had uploaded it today, I would have written in the description that I missed the cut-off for Valentine's uploads. Oh well.

I also need to film some insert shots of all the products I used.

Oh yeah that reminds me... the eyelash glue I ordered came in the mail the other day. I ordered two to keep a good stock, but when I tried to squeeze out the glue, nothing came out. I thought that perhaps the cap was still sealed, so I used a safety pin to poke it through... turns out the glue is like a different consistency. I'm not sure if it got frozen and defrosted during transport, but it seems like that's what happened. Only a clear bubbly liquid comes out and one of the glue broke at the side because I put so much pressure on it to squeeze the glue out. :(

Looking for a new glue and possibly a refund... Maybe I'll try brush-on glue.

I'll definitely get some stuff done tomorrow!!

Skiing

This week was steady. I had a headache on one of the days so I didn't come into work (I told everyone, don't worry!) and I think it was because I woke up dehydrated and was woken suddenly by our ice maker... the headache lasted the whole day but I feel much better now (with much needed sleep!). We went for wing Wednesday with some friends and tried to take advantage of Hudson's 1cent wing deal but the line-up was crazy and it was cooooold outside. About an hour later we went to The Unicorn which still had a great deal. :)

On Friday we rented ski equipment and went to Canmore to visit Dan's parents for his birthday. We then went skiing at Norquay and it was my first time ever so I did the ski lesson with an instructor who's first day instructing was that day as well, haha! It was fun but I still need to get used to the weight of the boots and skis as well as the boots hurt my shins a lot. I wonder if non-rental skis are much lighter, my instructor's seemed so much lighter as those were her own, so I may look around for some before going on my next ski trip with work. Bunny hill for me! Dan was more experienced as he took lessons a long time ago, but we both had fun together. :)

Today we went to a friend's house to play Orleans the boardgame. Pretty fun, I came in last with 44 points but now I know how the game works so I'm ready for another haha. We then went to Ajisai for some sushi. I think I ate the rolls too fast as my stomach was kind of hurting from pressure lol, and it got so cold outside afterwards. It was much warmer this afternoon so I didn't take my winter coat with me.

I also filmed a Valentine's day look today. I was planning to do a swatch pic for my blog as well but that didn't happen today so I'll have to do that tomorrow or on Tuesday. I have a busy week this week! Lots going on at work and a lot of things going on for the Family Day long weekend! :)

Slaaccckkk Week

This week was a very unproductive week. I filmed a night time skin care routine video but didn't really upload it until the end of the week, and I tried to film a makeup tutorial but that turned out pretty badly... I used the wrong brush to pick up a black eyeshadow and it was just so faded! So I decided that I won't be using the footage, and I think I need to find a new lens to zoom in better with a wider aperture. I have a prime lens but it doesn't zoom, so I need to find a new one.... hopefully I can find a cheaper zoom lens soon. But yeah, haven't really done anything on weeknights...

Work was pretty tiring this week but at least I got things done and it went by pretty quickly. Having two events per week and two phone meetings this week really tuckered me out. It's going to be two events each week from now until the summer, I think, so I have to prepare for that.

The weekend was quite eventful, though! On Friday we had Subway for dinner and just chilled out, and on Saturday we ran some errands, bought some chips and celebrated Dan's birthday with friends. I got him a green tea mousse cake to share with everyone, it was really delicious! Today will be a chill day. Dan's playing board games right now with a friend and I am just doing some work and watching YouTube videos. It's snowing so much right now, so I'm glad we're staying inside for the majority of the day. I did go out earlier to grab lunch at... Subway.... haha and it was so cold... thank goodness for warm sweatpants.

We might be doing a birthday dinner this evening somewhere. I plan on getting a lot of stuff done today so that I don't have to worry about it as much tomorrow. I really want to take my weeknights easy too, and I'm learning all about how to balance work/hobbies/socializing lol.

I hope to get the majority of my editing done today and I will also try to look into influencer stuff. I want to do a blog post for sure this week, and luckily blog posts are much easier to coordinate then videos, so it should be much easier!
